Cambrils has become the hub for a chess training retreat for French enthusiasts, taking place until November 1st at the Sol Port Cambrils hotel and including activities like a simultaneous games exhibition in the port.

The initiative, led by coach Marc Quenehen, is being held from October 25th to November 1st at the Sol Port Cambrils hotel. Grandmaster Bachar Kouatly offered a simultaneous games exhibition in the port with 25 participants.
One of the most notable activities took place at the port of Cambrils, featuring a simultaneous games exhibition by Bachar Kouatly, the first French International Grandmaster. The exhibition, supported by the Cambrils City Council and the Sol Port Cambrils hotel, gathered 25 participants across 15 boards. For two and a half hours, Kouatly moved between the boards, winning all the games.
The activity attracted the curiosity of port visitors, offering an opportunity to introduce chess to the public in one of Cambrils' emblematic locations.
The retreat, led by Marc Quenehen, includes 15 hours of classes, game analysis sessions, a tournament officiated by Laurent Freyd, and leisure activities such as a boat trip. The aim is to deepen knowledge of chess, improve play, and exchange experiences, while also discovering Cambrils and its tourist offerings.
The mayor of Cambrils, Oliver Klein, highlighted that "initiatives like this help us advance in tourist de-seasonalisation. They attract visitors outside the summer months, generate activity, and contribute to promoting an image of Cambrils as a quality destination." Klein also praised the municipality's capacity to host specialized activities, combining hobbies with a pleasant stay.
