The Cambrils Agriculture Consultative Council has renewed its representation with the appointment of Josep Ramon Matas as the new spokesperson, in a meeting chaired by Mayor Oliver Klein, to discuss rural security and road maintenance.
The Cambrils Agriculture Consultative Council met today under the chairmanship of Mayor Oliver Klein to renew some of its members and address key issues for the municipality's agricultural sector. The meeting saw the appointment of Josep Ramon Matas as the new spokesperson, succeeding Josep M. Barrabeig. New members joining the board include Josep M. Casas, Xavi Bordera, and Jordi Barrabeig, while Josep M. Escrivà retains his role.
This new phase aims to strengthen the Council's role as a platform for participation between the City Council and representatives of Cambrils' farmers. The meeting focused on the security of agricultural holdings, environmental protection, the detection of thefts and illegal dumping, and the need for fluid communication with municipal services.
Discussions also covered the maintenance of agricultural roads, the conservation of streams and ravines for risk prevention, and consideration for dispersed populations in rural farmhouses. Finally, the initiative to establish a Land Bank was proposed to facilitate access to agricultural land for entrepreneurs and promote generational renewal in agriculture.
“
"Cambrils is known for many things, but we cannot forget that agriculture is part of our roots, our identity, and also our future. We have an agricultural sector that works, that loves the land, and that must be heard, respected, and supported by the municipal administration."
“
"We are aware that there are issues requiring constant attention, such as the security of holdings, the condition of roads, or the maintenance of streams. Our intention is to work together with farmers, listen to their proposals, and continue advancing with concrete actions, within the municipality's possibilities and competencies."
“
"Preserving our agricultural space means not only conserving the landscape but also keeping alive an economic activity that generates wealth and gives Cambrils its character. We must be able to facilitate generational renewal, open doors to new entrepreneurs, and ensure that agriculture continues to play a leading role in our municipality. And to achieve this, permanent dialogue with the sector is essential."
