The decision, described by Klein as “consensual” with governing partners (PSC and PP), comes after months of tension and the municipal unions' demand for the councilor's resignation. Mar España, despite losing Human Resources, will remain in the government team managing the Social Welfare area.
“"Now it will be my turn to deal with it."
Klein called the media hours before the workers' representatives were scheduled to speak and pointed out that the situation was “complex and accumulated over the years”. The mayor acknowledged the “wear and tear” of the portfolio and thanked España for her work, noting that the situation had reached a critical point, with a “structural collapse of the department” according to the unions.
“"We have detected that there had to be a technical change now."
The former councilor defended the teamwork done and explained that she had decided “voluntarily” to step aside. For his part, the mayor used the appearance to call for “responsibility” from the unions and encouraged them to reach agreements, assuring them he would have a “negotiating spirit”. He added that some improvements are already being implemented, such as creating new positions and paying salary arrears.
