The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested two men, aged 26 and 48, on Wednesday, December 17, on the AP-7 motorway in Cambrils, while attempting to steal a vehicle from a foreign tourist couple.

The arrest took place around 2:30 p.m., when a patrol performing crime prevention duties on the motorway was alerted to possible thefts. Officers caught the thieves at kilometer point 275 heading north, seeing them flee on foot.
According to the victims, the detainees forced them to stop while driving on the motorway, trying to make them believe they had suffered a flat tire. They are accused of attempted theft inside a vehicle.

The detainees accumulate up to 66 prior convictions for property crimes and had already been arrested two weeks earlier for similar incidents in the same locality.

In addition to the attempted theft, one of the men is charged with driving without ever having obtained a license and another crime against road safety for creating a serious risk to traffic. Both arrested men were brought before the Duty Court of Instruction in Reus.
The Catalan police reported that just two weeks earlier, on December 1, they had already been arrested in Cambrils for three other thefts, along with a third individual, following a long chase during which they endangered users of the TV-3141 road.
