The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested two repeat offenders on Wednesday afternoon on the AP-7 near Cambrils after they attempted to steal a vehicle from a couple of foreign tourists.

The events occurred around 2:30 PM on Wednesday, when a highway crime prevention patrol was alerted to possible thefts. Upon arriving at kilometer point 275 northbound, officers saw two men running away, one of whom hid inside a vehicle. The driver was intercepted before he could escape the scene.
The detainees, aged 26 and 48, were arrested as alleged perpetrators of attempted theft inside a vehicle. One of them is also charged with driving without ever having obtained a license and another count against traffic safety, as he created a serious risk to circulation by forcing the victims to stop at high speed.
According to the victims, the thieves forced them to stop while driving on the highway and then tried to make them believe they had a flat tire. The two men accumulate up to 66 prior arrests for property crimes and had already been detained two weeks earlier, on December 1, for three other thefts also in Cambrils.
On that previous occasion, the three individuals (including the same driver) were intercepted on the TV-3141 road after a long chase during which they endangered other road users. The two men arrested for the attempted theft on the AP-7 were brought before the Reus Court of Instruction on duty.
