The Provincial Court of Barcelona has declared the national trademark Club Futbol Reus null and void, ruling that the application by CATBUG 15 S.L. was made in bad faith.

The court found that the company attempted to monopolize a name deeply rooted in the local sports history of Reus shortly after the dissolution of the historic Club de Futbol Reus Deportiu in December 2020.
Local organizations, including Club de Futbol Reddis and the Fundació Privada Futbol Base Reus, are now free to use these descriptive terms. The judges emphasized that trademark law cannot be used to seize collective identities for exclusive private gain.
