More than 50 students and researchers from Iran at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) are living in a state of high anxiety in Reus and Tarragona as the conflict escalates in their home country.

The situation in Iran has directly impacted the local academic community. Scientists like Mahsa Sheikholeslami, a data researcher at Hospital Sant Joan de Reus, describe the struggle to maintain professional normalcy while fearing for their families' safety. Constant internet and power outages have left many residents without contact with their loved ones for weeks.

"I have no news from my family. Internet has been cut since the war started. There have been bombings in my city and I don't know if they are safe."

Beyond the emotional toll, many students face a financial crisis. The Iranian currency's value has plummeted by 600% against the euro, making family support nearly impossible. In response, URV Solidària has launched psychological support and financial aid programs for those affected.
