The gathering, held on Wednesday, April 22, served as a prelude to the festive day of April 23, which will fill the Plaça del Mercadal and surrounding streets with books and roses. The event brought together authors and the public in an exhibition space dedicated to works published in the region over the past year.
The evening began with a family photograph in the library's outdoor patio, followed by text readings and a performance by the Víbria de Reus. This year, the central theme of the presentation was the figure of architect Antoni Gaudí, within the framework of the Gaudí Year 2026 commemoration.
The bibliographic exhibition, the largest hosted annually by the Xavier Amorós Library, includes publications linked to Reus and Baix Camp by authorship, theme, or edition. This display allows the public to explore local literary production from last April to the present.
For Sant Jordi Day itself, the city has prepared an extensive program of activities centered in the Plaça del Mercadal, where 102 stalls will be set up, including nine florists and nine bookstores. Throughout the day, cultural proposals for all audiences will be offered, from children's stories to book signings by local authors and the awarding of the 2025 super-reader prizes.
The day will also feature traditional elements such as sardana dancing with the Cobla Reus Jove, parades with festive figures like the SuperDrac, the giantess Arlet, and the city's dragons, as well as a casteller exhibition by the Xiquets de Reus and final fire displays in the Plaça del Mercadal.
Additionally, the stalls will distribute tickets to participate in a raffle for 20-euro vouchers for the purchase of Catalan books, aiming to promote reading and citizen participation in one of the most emblematic dates of the Catalan cultural calendar.
