A fire in a battery of containers on Lepant Street in Reus on the morning of Saturday, January 31, forced the evacuation of residents and caused serious material damage to two nearby commercial premises.

The fire started in a paper container and quickly spread to the rest, affecting the facade of the nearest building. The most affected premises were the Olivia Garzón Fashion School and the Nuevas Formas hairdressing salon, which suffered broken windows and melted wiring.

"We looked out onto the street and everything was burning, there was a lot of fire and a lot of light."

Montse · Affected Resident
According to residents, the fire, which was attended by three units of the Bombers (Firefighters) at 00:36 hours, was intentional, a fact that the Mossos d'Esquadra are reportedly aware of. Resident Montse highlighted that the double-glazed window system was crucial in preventing smoke from entering the home, although the shutters gave way due to the heat.

"We have been able to restore the electricity, but we have two shutters that we cannot raise."

The neighbors had to remain on the street until four in the morning, when security forces confirmed there was no carbon monoxide or hot spots inside. The owner of the fashion school regretted that they had previously reported the location of the container battery to the Reus City Council, as it was situated too close to the building.
