The Reus City Council has approved the project to renovate the roof of the Teatre Fortuny, an intervention costing 186,625.94 euros aimed at ending water leaks and ensuring the preservation of the cultural facility.

The project, to be executed by the Teatre Fortuny Consortium, involves work on a total area of 604 square meters. The municipal forecast is for the works to take place during the summer months, coinciding with the theater's inactivity period, to minimize the impact on the cultural program.
This renovation is crucial for a space that has suffered for years from water ingress, with a construction system that has reached the end of its useful life. The intervention will allow for continued maintenance tasks and ensure optimal conditions for the facility.
The Teatre Fortuny reopened its doors in early March 2026, after almost two weeks of inactivity that began on February 10. This closure was prompted by incidents in the electrical circuit and the need to replace several valves in the fire suppression system, following technical safety inspections.

"When we arrived, there was no global planning. We decided to develop one and, for the first time, calendarize all necessary actions."

Sandra Guaita · Mayor of Reus
The temporary closure is part of a broader process of comprehensive review of the facility. Mayor Sandra Guaita explained that, since the beginning of her mandate in July 2023, the City Council and the Diputació agreed to promote a master plan for investments and maintenance to diagnose the real state of the building, which boasts over 150 years of history.
The roof renovation has been identified as one of the main challenges. As the theater is not owned by the Consortium but operates under a rental agreement, specific legal formulas are being studied with the property owner, Societat el Círcol, to address these major structural investments.
