The attic of the Casa Pairal Gaudí in Riudoms has been transformed into a space for sensory exploration to host the exhibition Món sonor i sons de Gaudí (Sound World and Sounds of Gaudí), one of the central events of the Gaudí Year in the municipality. The exhibition can be visited for free on weekends until February 28.
The artist and researcher Josep Cerdà, Doctor of Fine Arts and Emeritus Professor at the UB, is responsible for this proposal, which focuses on a little-studied aspect of Gaudí's work: his auditory perception. The exhibition raises the question of how sounds influenced his way of conceiving architecture.
Beyond what Gaudí saw or touched, what did he hear? And how did those sounds influence his way of conceiving architecture?
To answer this question, seven sculptural pieces are presented, emitting internal sounds recorded by Cerdà and his team. Visitors can identify soundscapes from the local imaginary of Riudoms and the Baix Camp region, such as Holy Week processions, the bells of Sant Jaume, the Diables de Riudoms, or the sounds of the sea and wind. Biographical elements related to Gaudí, such as coppersmiths or castellers, are also included.
The opening was attended by a Chinese delegation, led by the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Barcelona, Meng Yuhong, accompanied by Consul Zhang Yan and Vice Consul Wang Zixuan. This presence underscores the cultural bridge that Josep Cerdà, who divides his work between Catalonia and China, has consolidated in Riudoms.
