The owners of the land where the former Gran Buffet stood in Cambrils have reached an agreement, unblocking the Compensation Board and allowing the urbanization of the Els Antígons sector to proceed. This 6.2-hectare area, situated between the old N-340 and the Camí de Vilafortuny, could begin its development as early as 2026.

The project envisions the creation of four new streets and four large building plots, alongside areas designated for green spaces. The commercial section, which will include a supermarket and a fast-food establishment, will be located at the front of Avenida Nova Augusta, next to the gas station. Despite interest from various chains, no operator has yet been finalized, a decision that will rest with the landowners.

The estimated investment required for this urbanization is around 5 million euros, which will be borne by the landholders. Construction work could commence after the summer, according to estimates from the Cambrils City Council.

Regarding the residential component, multi-family blocks of up to five floors will be built adjacent to Camí de Vilafortuny, totaling 290 homes. Of these, the City Council has reserved a 2,200 m2 plot to build 87 protected housing units. Additionally, the Els Antígons sector will feature an entire 7,500 m2 block designated for municipal facilities. Initially, a warehouse for the municipal brigade was planned, but the council is now considering locating a new Local Police station there.

The iconic Gran Buffet de Cambrils closed its doors in 2014 and was demolished in 2017. Since then, the land has remained an inhospitable plot used as an informal parking area. The only activity that will be maintained is the gas station, provided the operating company modifies its occupied boundaries.
