Aigües de Reus invested 5.18 million euros in thirty environmental projects during 2025, focused on improving water efficiency and boosting clean energy in the city of Reus.

The bulk of the investments made during 2025 were aimed at improving the use of the city's own water resources. Highlights include the commissioning of the Bassa Nova, the construction of a water treatment plant to incorporate water from the barri Fortuny mine into the supply network, and the creation of new non-potable water networks for watering parks and municipal facilities. For the first time, municipal swimming pools used non-potable water with sanitary guarantees.

"The management of the supply and sanitation system is complex and requires continuous planning to guarantee an efficient and sustainable 24-hour service."

Aigües de Reus has also strengthened network control with new leak detection points based on artificial intelligence technology. These improvements have allowed the system to maintain performance levels above the Catalan and Spanish average, and some of these actions will continue to be developed during 2026.
In the energy sector, the photovoltaic plant at the Reus EDAR already covers nearly 28% of the treatment plant's electricity consumption. Combined with energy generated from biogas, the facility produces more than two-thirds of the energy it consumes. The company's goal is to achieve full energy self-sufficiency before 2035.
Regarding research, 2025 has been key with projects such as the development of technologies to eliminate PFAS from drinking water. Furthermore, Reus has become the first Catalan city to initiate the Integral Sanitation System Management Plan. In the outreach area, 7,691 people participated in educational programs during the 2024-2025 academic year, an increase of 29%.
