The collective of people residing in the former B9 institute in Badalona expressed outrage over the eviction carried out this Wednesday, warning about the health risks posed by low winter temperatures.

The collective’s spokesperson, Younouss Drane, described the measure as “inhumane” because it leaves hundreds of people homeless during winter. He strongly criticized the PP government led by Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol, accusing him of seeking electoral gain by criminalizing the occupants.

"Now people can get sick or even die due to the low temperatures."

For his part, the Mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, defended the action as a measure “against illegality,” denying any racist motivation. He argued that the situation at B9 generated “insecurity” and made neighborhood coexistence “unsustainable.”

"We do not want them in Badalona."

The city council will recover possession of the property to demolish it in the coming weeks. Albiol announced that a new Guàrdia Urbana police station will be built on the site. In response, the collective called a demonstration for 6 PM the same Wednesday at Plaça de la Vila.
