The CCOO union has denounced the dismissal of a delegate at the La Marinada residence, part of the Pere Mata group in Reus, alleging union persecution, prompting a protest this Wednesday in Tarragona.

About ten people gathered outside the Territorial Services of Labor in Tarragona before the pre-trial conciliation hearing. According to CCOO, the company dismissed the worker, who was suffering from a migraine and stopped briefly, alleging she was sleeping during working hours.

"The dismissal of the worker is retaliation for the work carried out as a union delegate and for previous complaints made by the works council."

José Manuel Benítez · Head of the Disability Sector for CCOO in Tarragona
José Manuel Benítez, head of the Disability Sector for CCOO in Tarragona, explained that management found the employee lying on a table. The unionist denounced that, furthermore, her personal mobile phone was searched without reason and that the required twelve hours of rest between shifts were not respected.
The employee was sanctioned without pay or work from September 10 until her dismissal in mid-October. CCOO demands her immediate readmission and an end to any process of union persecution. The trial for this case is scheduled for October 2026.
Benítez added that the workers at La Marinada are “very afraid” of possible reprisals, as the sector is highly precarious and the staff suffers from work overload because the company does not comply with social services ratios.
