This marks the first time the project, operational since 2019, has opened its doors to local families, having previously only worked with pediatric centers in Barcelona and Madrid. Patients and their companions were able to stay for free in one of the complex's apartments and access the attractions at PortAventura and Ferrari Land without queuing.
“"This experience provides patients with an emotional benefit that is very important for the physical and emotional recovery of the children."
Pediatric officials from the Tarragona centers emphasize that these stays help strengthen family bonds, especially after the “upheaval” caused by the diagnosis of a chronic illness. Marc Santiago, one of the patients from Reus with heart disease, described the experience as “impressive,” while Aida Torrents, mother of a child with a neurological condition, appreciated being able to forget the “day-to-day” of their situation.
The Dreams Village was inaugurated by the PortAventura Foundation in 2019 with six apartments, and four more were added in 2024, totaling ten. The initiative aims to host about 400 families annually and has already surpassed a thousand visitors since its creation.
