The Local Catalan Service (SLC) of Reus has issued a new call to recruit volunteers for the Voluntariat per la Llengua (VxL) program. Interested individuals can contact them at 634 740 079 or email vxl.reus@cpnl.cat.
The Language Volunteering program facilitates Catalan practice through informal conversation, creating linguistic pairs between fluent volunteers and learners with basic knowledge seeking to gain confidence. These pairs meet for a minimum of 10 hours, typically in weekly one-hour sessions, either in person or virtually.
Coinciding with the start of new Catalan courses, which have around 850 registered participants, many individuals are looking to supplement classroom learning with real conversation opportunities. Therefore, the program needs new linguistic volunteers to meet all requests. Participants are also sought for the virtual modality with learners from other municipalities in Catalonia or abroad, requiring only a device with internet connection.
This year, the SLC of Reus has already formed over 200 linguistic pairs in the city, demonstrating the program's positive reception and growing interest in practicing Catalan in everyday contexts. This sustained demand necessitates expanding the volunteer network.
The next training and new linguistic pair presentation session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th. Registered participants will receive detailed information about the location and operation of the activity before the meetings begin.
The Language Volunteering program is a consolidated initiative that contributes to promoting the social use of Catalan, fostering social cohesion, and creating bonds between people from diverse backgrounds through conversation and the exchange of experiences.
