The Ministry of Finance has greenlit l'Ametlla de Mar's municipal budget for the current year, just two weeks before the no-confidence motion scheduled for April 17 that will change the mayoralty.

This approval comes at a time of political transition in l'Ametlla de Mar, where Republican Jordi Gaseni is set to take over as mayor from Eva del Amo (Junts). The decision by the Ministry of Finance is significant, as the council is under central government oversight due to debt exceeding the established limit.
Outgoing Mayor Eva del Amo has highlighted the improvement in the municipality's financial situation. According to her statements, the debt ratio has been reduced from 140% to 60.5%, with a treasury surplus of 500,000 euros and a net saving of one million euros. She also emphasized that no outstanding invoices are being left, although she acknowledged that the payment period to suppliers is seventy days, exceeding the thirty days mandated by law.

"We entered with a ratio of 140% and according to the 2025 budget settlement, we have left it at 60.5%. The treasury surplus is 500,000 euros, with a net saving of one million euros and a budgetary result of 800,000 euros."

Del Amo attributed the payment delays to a settlement system with Aqualia, the water management company, with whom a two-year deficit had accumulated. Regarding the current budget, Treasury's approval is subject to amendments already being worked on by municipal intervention. The goal is for this to be the last supervised budget, thanks to the amortization of a loan of over 700,000 euros and the recovery of millions in debts, including 1.4 million euros from one developer and the expectation of receiving three million more due to urban planning non-compliance.
The no-confidence motion, scheduled for April 17, is the result of Socialist councilor Ana Aragón's decision not to support her own party leader, Xavier de la Fuente, breaking the initial pact. The PSC has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Aragón. Despite the situation, Del Amo stated that they will not call a plenary session to approve the budget before the motion, to avoid imposing it on the new governing team.
