Socialist councilor Xavier de la Fuente has announced his departure from l'Ametlla de Mar's (Baix Ebre) municipal government to join the opposition, amidst disagreements over a previously agreed mayoral handover.

The decision, communicated during this Monday's ordinary plenary session, means that De la Fuente, who previously served as first deputy mayor for Urban Planning, Mobility and Public Spaces, Fisheries, and Strategic Planning, is relinquishing his executive responsibilities.
The announcement follows De la Fuente's formal request for the resignation of Junts mayor Eva del Amo, in compliance with an investiture pact that stipulated a mayoral changeover between Junts and the PSC.
For her part, Del Amo has reiterated that, before any change, the PSC must guarantee a stable majority for the agreement. This condition arises from socialist councilor Ana Aragón's refusal to support De la Fuente's investiture as the new mayor.

"Junts' votes are at the disposal of the PSC."

The mayor emphasized Junts' willingness to honor the agreement, while the opposition has accused her of clinging to power, amid a tense political situation within l'Ametlla de Mar's council.
