After two years of suffering, an elderly couple over 80 years old residing on Santa Anna street in Remolins, Tortosa, has seen their nightmare end with the departure of a squatter who lived on the upper floor and caused them serious problems.

The situation, which severely affected the mother's health, led the children to consider temporarily moving back in with their parents. Paco, one of the siblings, told ebredigital.cat about the difficult coexistence they had endured, emphasizing that his mother has developed a significant health problem due to the stress.

"We had made the decision because this individual had done everything to my parents, who are over 80 years old. To the point that my mother now has a significant health problem derived from the two years they have had to suffer because of him."

The squatter's departure, which according to the family resisted leaving the property but eventually did, was followed by the immediate boarding up of the apartment by the municipal brigade. This event sparked a political debate in the Tortosa plenary session, with Junts per Tortosa defending the intervention as a response to their motion against occupations, while the local executive stated that the departure had been voluntary.
Paco expressed gratitude for the interest and support from the Local Police during this period, despite the legal limitations they face. He recounted a long list of damages and uncivil acts, such as false ceilings collapsing due to water leaks, the destruction of common elements of the building, and the accumulation of dirt that blocked neighbors' access.

"I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for what they have done during these two years. If they cannot do more, it is because the laws are what they are. Every time we called them, they came to worry about my parents and draw up reports of all the irregularities they had detected."

The squatter had gained access to the dwelling by taking advantage of the owner's death and his children's disinterest, a situation that, according to Paco, is common in the old town of Remolins. The family now hopes to forget this episode and return to normalcy.
