The Consortium for Environmental Policies of Terres de l'Ebre (COPATE) has awarded the contract for the management and operation of the waste collection points in the municipalities of Baix Ebre and Montsià to the company Acciona Servicios Urbanos, S.L. The contract, approved through an open procedure subject to harmonized regulation, will have a maximum duration of five years and an amount of 4,009,481.39 euros (excluding VAT).
The COPATE waste collection network serves 100,000 inhabitants through 22 facilities —12 in Montsià, 9 fixed in Baix Ebre, and one mobile. It annually manages approximately 13,500 tons of correctly classified waste, a figure equivalent to 20% of the waste generated in the territory.
The new contract introduces significant innovations. Firstly, activities for the reuse of items (PxR), such as furniture, appliances, and toys, will be expanded in collaboration with Third Sector entities. Secondly, a virtual showcase accessible to all citizens will be created where recovered items can be viewed to extend their lifespan and reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills.
Furthermore, users will be able to consult their contributions online. In parallel, COPATE will allocate approximately 337,000 euros —funded by the Waste Agency of Catalonia— to modernize the facilities with new containers, covers, and video surveillance systems.
