The first deputy mayor of l'Ametlla de Mar, Xavier de la Fuente (PSC), has announced his departure from the municipal government to join the opposition, amidst a deep local political crisis.

De la Fuente's decision, who held the portfolios of Urban Planning, Mobility and Public Spaces, Fisheries, and Strategic Planning, comes at a time of great instability in the local executive. This situation is triggered by the refusal of the other socialist councilor, Ana Aragón, to support De la Fuente's investiture as mayor, as stipulated in the governing pact with Junts.
The investiture pact established that the Junts mayor, Eva del Amo, would lead the City Council for the first 34 months of the term, then hand over to the socialists. However, the transfer has not materialized due to Aragón's firm opposition, who accuses her party leader of dishonest behavior. The councilor has even reported De la Fuente to the Catalan Data Protection Authority for the alleged dissemination of private conversations.

"Institutional responsibility and respect for agreements oblige us to act with prudence."

Given this situation, the PSC has demanded that Aragón resign her councilor's seat. For its part, Junts refuses to activate the mayoral handover if a stable majority to ensure governability is not guaranteed, although it reiterates its commitment to the initial agreement. In this context of deadlock, De la Fuente announced his departure from the municipal government during the plenary session attended by Mayor Del Amo.
According to information from the ACN, the lack of five votes from Junts and two from the PSC in a hypothetical investiture could open the door for Esquerra Republicana, the most voted force in the last elections, in case of a tie. Therefore, Junts has stated that they will not relinquish the mayoralty until the socialists resolve their 'internal crisis' and the 'stable majority' that underpinned the governing pact is maintained. Mayor Del Amo has assured that Junts' votes 'are at the disposal of the PSC' once they can assume the mayoralty with the necessary guarantees.
