Around 4,000 people marched through the streets of Tortosa this Wednesday in what unions described as a historic strike to demand better conditions from the Government.

The protest focused on the need for higher salaries and a reduction in classroom ratios to support inclusive education. According to USTEC, the strike saw a 90% turnout among educational staff in the Terres de l'Ebre region.

"We cannot take it anymore with salaries that are at the bottom of the State rankings."

The demonstration followed a slow-drive protest involving 130 vehicles on the C-42 highway. Unions have warned of further strikes scheduled for March if negotiations with the Department of Education do not improve.
