The Mossos d'Esquadra police force launched a large-scale surveillance operation this Thursday on the AP-7 highway near L'Aldea to inspect commercial freight transport.

Around forty officers were deployed at the Baix Ebre service station. The main goal is to ensure drivers adhere to mandatory rest periods and that cargo is properly secured, as overweight vehicles cause 25% of heavy truck accidents.

"These controls are carried out to prevent accidents and avoid incidents on the highway, where a heavy vehicle crash causes severe traffic jams."

Carles Gómez · Chief Inspector of the Transport Inspection Area
In this specific section of the highway, trucks are prohibited from overtaking and must not exceed 80 km/h. The operation used helicopters and remote tachograph reading technology to enforce these regulations.
