The Mossos d'Esquadra police force conducted a large-scale inspection of freight transport this Thursday on the AP-7 highway near l'Aldea to improve road safety.

Around forty officers were deployed at the Baix Ebre service area to check driver rest periods and cargo stability. Police data shows that excess weight is responsible for 25% of accidents involving heavy vehicles. In this specific section of the highway, trucks are restricted to 80 km/h and are prohibited from overtaking.

"The regulations for international freight transport are very extensive, and it is often difficult to find a truck that has everything perfect."

Carles Gómez · Head of the Transport Inspection Area
The operation utilized advanced technology, including CRC antennas to read tachographs remotely and a police helicopter for aerial surveillance. Canine units were also present to search for illegal substances or human trafficking in vehicles traveling from North Africa and southern Spain towards northern Europe.
