The Tortosa City Council is experiencing a new political confrontation following the partial paving of the Travessera road, in the Célio area, which has led to accusations of favoritism from the opposition.

The governing team of the Tortosa City Council has responded to insinuations from Junts per Tortosa, which has raised doubts about the work on a section of the Travessera municipal road. According to the opposition, the paving was limited to about 150 meters, just up to the vicinity of the mayor's residence, while the rest of the road, approximately 1,225 meters long, remains in poor condition.

"We want to make it very clear that we are not questioning the cost of the work, but rather the criteria used. What raises doubts is that only this specific section has been intervened while the rest of the road remains deteriorated."

Junts per Tortosa demands transparency in the management of public resources and laments the lack of information about this action. The opposition has questioned why, despite having a budget allocation for the entire road, only 70% of the budget allocated to municipal roads in 2025 was executed, leaving 30,000 euros unused.
The opposition group has requested the complete file of the action to ascertain the reasons for the partial paving and whether there is any technical report justifying the decision. They also want to clarify if the action is planned in phases and, if so, why the rest of the road was not executed despite having available economic resources.

"The initial explanation from the governing team is not convincing enough. If there are indeed technical reports and a phased plan, they must be made public to understand these action criteria. Otherwise, we could be facing a possible case of favoritism. We demand transparency in the management of public resources."

For its part, the governing team has responded through a statement, assuring that the intervention responds exclusively to technical and safety criteria, in accordance with the planning for the maintenance and improvement of the municipal road network. They consider the insinuations by Junts per Tortosa unacceptable and aimed at eroding the image of the mayor and the municipal government.
The statement specifies that the works are part of a global minor contract of 34,995 euros, which includes the improvement of four roads: Codines de Coleto (16,233 euros), Costa del Célio (1,033 euros), Travessera Road (4,464 euros), and Sant Jordi Road (13,082 euros). During 2025, nearly 200,000 euros were invested in various municipal roads. The work in the Célio area, carried out in November 2025, does not respond to any particular interest, but rather to the planning of the Services area, following technical and safety criteria for the accumulated deterioration of the pavement.
The municipal government reiterates that road works are carried out in phases, depending on technical priorities and budgetary availability, and that during 2026, investment in the road network will continue, including the section of Célio that was not repaired, as already communicated to residents.
