This Thursday, Tortosa will become a meeting point for the defense of the Catalan language. Both initiatives, which have coordinated their efforts, seek to raise public awareness about the challenges facing Catalan throughout the Països Catalans. The goal is to urge administrations to take effective measures and encourage the population to participate in a festive but determined manner.
The day will begin at 7:30 PM with a concentration organized by Sant Jordi per la Llengua to receive the Correllengua Flame. This flame, which began its journey on April 19 in Prada de Conflent (Catalunya Nord), will be carried by local sports entities such as ATE, Club Bàsquet Cantaires, and Club de Futbol Tortosa Ebre, with the collaboration of the group Lo Golafre.
After the flame's arrival, the manifesto of Sant Jordi per la Llengua will be read by representatives of the adhering entities, including education unions such as USTEC and CGT. Subsequently, attention will shift to the Town Hall square in the form of a demonstration, with the participation of various organizations linked to the Correllengua Agermanat.
Among the entities joining the demonstration are Òmnium Cultural Ebre, the ANC, the PDE, the Comissió per la retirada de símbols franquistes de Tortosa, Jovent Organitzat de les Terres de l'Ebre, USTEC Terres de l'Ebre, CGT Ebre, Amigues i amics de Tortosa per la UNESCO, Males herbes, Atzavara-Arrels, and the Casal Popular Panxampla. The Banda Municipal de Música de Tortosa and the children's percussion group Lo Golafre will provide musical entertainment.
Once in the Town Hall square, there will again be participation from cultural entities such as the Castellers de Tortosa. Following this, the manifesto of the Correllengua Agermanat will be read by a representative of the initiative. The day will culminate with a popular jota dance with the group Lo Planter, thus closing a day dedicated to the vitality and defense of Catalan.
