The Tortosa City Council formally established the Water Table this February, a new space for citizen participation designed to oversee the local water supply service and its transparency.

This new body's main goal is to conduct a thorough follow-up of the current contract and produce a report within one year regarding the consequences of the partial privatization of the Municipal Public Services Company (EMSP). The initiative promotes water as a universal right.
The Water Table includes representatives from municipal groups, technical staff, EMSP workers, and social entities such as the Plataforma en Defensa de l'Ebre. This plural composition aims to ensure strict democratic control over water management in Tortosa.
As part of this initiative, the council will launch the Water and Democracy series, with the first public session scheduled for March 20th. The event will coincide with World Water Day week to educate citizens on sustainable and democratic management models.
