The event, organized by the Castellers de Tortosa, will take place at 12 noon in the Plaça de l'Ajuntament. This day will not only celebrate the casteller tradition but also commemorate the tenth anniversary of the local entity's baptism and its eleventh anniversary.
“"It will be a very special day, because in addition to the Castellers de Tortosa, the Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls will also be there, who have not come to our city since 1992."
The presence of the Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls, considered one of the leading formations in the casteller world, has generated great anticipation. Around 300 castellers from this group are expected to travel to Tortosa to participate in the celebration, promising a grand display of human towers.
The organizers have thanked the sponsors for their support and have called on the public to fill the square and enjoy a casteller day that, they affirmed, is not seen every day in the capital of Baix Ebre. The Tortosa City Council has congratulated the Castellers de Tortosa for their dedication to popular culture and for consolidating the casteller tradition in the city.
This Casteller Day is part of a week full of cultural and educational activities organized by the Tortosa City Council and the Marcel·lí Domingo Library for Sant Jordi 2026. The program includes everything from award ceremonies for readers and volunteers to the Sant Jordi Eve with a performance by dancer Anna Hierro, and a tribute to writer Zoraida Burgos.
On Sant Jordi Day, Thursday, the day will begin with a floral offering at the monument to Gerard Vergés and the inauguration of the 'Vinyls in Shop Windows' initiative, featuring literary excerpts by Manuel Pérez Bonfill. There will also be the traditional book and rose stalls along Sant Blai street and adjacent squares, with book signings by local authors. The day will conclude with a circus show and the arrival of the Correllengua Agermanat.
