The Mayor of Tortosa, Mar Lleixà, has formally requested the Department of Justice to take action to advance the removal of the Battle of the Ebro monument, which is currently stalled in court.

In a letter to Minister Ramon Espadaler, the local government argues that the legal grounds for the current suspension have vanished. This follows a Supreme Court decision last week that rejected an appeal against the monument's declassification as a protected site.

"The conditions that the administrative court had established for not issuing a ruling on the building permit appeal have disappeared."

The removal project in Tortosa has been blocked by precautionary measures from a Tarragona court following a challenge by the group COREMBE. The city now seeks a meeting with regional authorities to finalize the dismantling of the Franco-era structure.
