The Hospital Universitari de Tortosa Verge de la Cinta (HUTVC) has officially submitted its candidacy for the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026, aiming to recognize five decades of essential public service in the Terres de l'Ebre.

The HUTVC candidacy coincides with the celebration of the center's 50th anniversary, which opened its doors in 1976. The Creu de Sant Jordi is one of the highest distinctions awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya to recognize entities that have provided outstanding services in the civic and social spheres.

During these five decades, the Hospital has been present in key moments in the lives of thousands of people and has contributed to guaranteeing a public, close, and equitable health model, rooted in the territory and involved in social cohesion.

The initiative seeks to highlight the collective work of professionals, citizens, and institutions. The hospital has issued an open call for healthcare professionals, entities, and citizens to join the candidacy through an enabled support form.
In parallel, the HUTVC has requested explicit support from the municipal councils (Ajuntaments) of the Terres de l’Ebre. They have been asked to show their support through an institutional letter or the approval of a motion during the Municipal Plenary Session.
