Windstorm eases in Catalonia after 172 km/h gusts in Empordà

Civil Protection maintains caution for outdoor activities as the storm linked to 'Oriana' gradually weakens.

The Catalan Meteorological Service recorded wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h in Terres de l'Ebre and Empordà this February 15, although the storm is beginning to subside.

The peak of the storm, caused by low-pressure system Oriana, was recorded in Portbou with gusts of 172.1 km/h. Significant winds were also noted in El Perelló and L'Hospitalet de l'Infant. Civil Protection continues to advise caution during Carnival celebrations and outdoor sports.
Emergency services handled nearly 900 calls, mostly regarding fallen trees and damaged urban furniture. The Fire Brigade responded to 750 incidents. While five people were taken to hospitals by the SEM, no serious injuries have been reported.
