The Candelera Procession is the most emblematic event of the town's Winter Festival, traditionally held every February 2. It stands out for its great popular devotion and the visual impact of its nocturnal route through the streets to the port, being a deeply rooted tradition among the residents, known as caleros and caleres.
This event is included in the inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Terres de l’Ebre and remains very much alive in L'Ametlla de Mar, with the participation of all generations.
Despite the cancellation, the Candelera festivities continued on Tuesday, Sant Blai day, with a day full of religious and festive activities. The town was filled with music from the parade of big-heads and the brass band Suquet Calero, followed by mass and the blessing of fruits, as well as the presentation of children born in 2025. The batucada Kalakatà animated the streets up to Plaça Joan Miró, where the institutional act took place.
On Tuesday afternoon, the celebration split between the Ball Daurat (Golden Dance) at the SCER and the concert by Piratas Rumbversions at the sports hall, leading into an intense night with DJ sessions and concerts lasting until the early morning.
Wednesday, February 4, dedicated to retirees and the closing of the Winter Festival, began with another parade and popular activities such as clay pigeon shooting and the traditional botifarrada (sausage feast). Plaça Nova hosted the traditional Ball de la Darrera Coca. Finally, the batucada Kalakatà and the charanga Suquet Calero led the closing procession to the Passeig Marítim, where a grand fireworks display concluded the Candelera 2026.
