The spokesperson for the anti-capitalist formation, Selene Alberich, emphasized that this initiative highlights the precarious situation facing public education and the lack of responses from the Government.
“"The initiative brings to the table the precarious situation experienced by public education and its staff, as well as the lack of response from the Government."
Alberich also highlighted the importance of the mobilizations and strikes by teachers in recent months, including those in the Terres de l'Ebre, which she considers the most significant in the region in recent years, reflecting accumulated discontent.
For his part, Pau Ureña, spokesperson for USTEC-STEs in the Terres de l'Ebre, explained that the motion is part of a union campaign being presented in various municipalities. Ureña defended public education as a fundamental tool for equal opportunities and social cohesion, proposing measures such as the recovery of purchasing power, salary improvements, and the reduction of workload through less bureaucracy, lower ratios, and more resources.
“"Public education is a key tool to guarantee equal opportunities and social cohesion."
The motion urges the Government of the Generalitat to negotiate effectively with the representative unions in the sector. According to CUP, the agreement announced by the Department of Education with CCOO and UGT does not represent all teachers nor does it resolve the existing conflict, attempting to falsely close a structural conflict.
Another key point of the motion is the request to the Generalitat to strengthen the funding of the educational system, as CUP denounces that municipalities are assuming costs and responsibilities that do not correspond to them to ensure the functioning of schools.
Finally, the motion addresses the defense of Catalan in schools, warning about the resolutions of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia that impose percentages of Spanish use, jeopardizing the linguistic immersion model and weakening the autonomy of schools. The formation denounces that the PSC, along with the PP and Vox, has vetoed in the Parliament the debate of a bill to guarantee Catalan in schools, and therefore, the motion urges to promote the processing of the bill presented by CUP, with the support of Plataforma per la Llengua and PiEC.
