The Mayor of Tortosa, Jordi Jordan (Movem Tortosa-PSC), will formally resign from his post on January 5th, as stipulated in the governing pact with Esquerra Republicana.

The resignation will become effective during the ordinary plenary session, paving the way for the election of the First Deputy Mayor, Mar Lleixà (ERC), as the new mayor. The election plenary is scheduled for January 10th. This handover complies with the coalition agreement signed in June 2023 between both political groups.

"The government's objectives and work will remain the same regardless of who is the person presiding over the corporation."

During the press conference, Jordan highlighted the work accomplished during the two and a half years he presided over the municipal corporation. Among the achievements, he mentioned the launch of the first two public nurseries and securing the largest subsidy in the City Council's history: a 25 million euro project for the Generalitat's neighborhood plan in the historic city center.
Other relevant actions include promoting eighty public housing units, the expansion and renovation works of the Felip Pedrell Auditorium Theater, and the remodeling of the riverfront to open the city to the Ebro river. He also emphasized the agreement regarding the land for the new hospital and the potential construction of the third bridge over the Ebro.
Finally, Jordan explained that he recently met with the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, to review joint issues aimed at “advancing” the city, stressing that maintenance work continues through the Pla Cuidem Tortosa program.
