The presentation ceremony took place in the Renaissance heart of the Cathedral of Tortosa and was attended by several ecclesiastical authorities. Speakers included the Bishop of Tortosa, Sergi Gordo; the Dean of the Cathedral Chapter, Víctor Cardona, and the Rector of the Ateneu Universitari Sant Pacià, Joan Torra.
The work, promoted by the Diocese of Tortosa and the Cathedral Chapter, is the result of research by Josep Alanyà i Roig, historian and director of the Diocesan Historical Archive. The book focuses on the life of Adrian VI, who served as preceptor to Emperor Charles V, Regent of the Spains, and defender of Europe against the Ottoman Empire.
This biography becomes one of the most complete published to date on Adrian VI, thanks to the recovery of unpublished documents from archives across Europe.
The publication, edited by Onada Edicions, aims to expand knowledge about Adrian of Utrecht's connection to Tortosa, coinciding with the fifth centenary of his election as Pope and his death. The research was made possible by new technologies, allowing the author online access to ecclesiastical and state archives throughout Europe.
The project received support from the Diputació de Tarragona, the Institute for the Development of the Ebro Regions (IDECE), and the Fundació Privada Duran Martí.
