Baix Empordà loses over 2,300 tourist apartments in five years

The region sees a significant drop in holiday rentals, particularly in towns like Begur, Palafrugell, and Palamós.

The Baix Empordà region has recorded a decrease of 2,352 tourist rental homes between August 2020 and November 2025, according to data from INE.

According to the National Statistics Institute, the number of tourist apartments dropped from 8,162 to 5,810 in just five years. This downward trend represents a reduction of nearly 2% in the share of this housing type relative to the total census in the region.
Towns like Begur, Palafrugell, and Palamós are leading this decline. In Begur, the supply fell from 1,095 to 670 units, while in Palafrugell, the figure dropped from 1,318 to 880. Other locations such as Pals and Sant Feliu de Guíxols also saw significant reductions.
