The Baix Empordà region is preparing for an intense festival season, with an offering that exceeds thirty events dedicated to music and performing arts. These events, mostly concentrated during the summer months, also include proposals that extend through spring and autumn, with the aim of de-seasonalizing cultural activity in the region.
Among this year's novelties, the 64th edition of the Festival de la Porta Ferrada in Sant Feliu de Guíxols stands out, now managed by Barcelona Events Musicals. This company, which won the tender for the festival's organization for the next three years, presents a lineup with artists such as The Corrs, David Bisbal, Sopa de Cabra, and Mònica Naranjo. Additionally, the festival is reclaiming the Espai Port and incorporating new venues like the Village Estrella Damm.
The ÍTACA Festival also brings new features, adding three new spaces: Ca la Pruna de Pals, the Església de l'Estartit, and the Palau de Fires de Girona. These join its usual events such as ÍTACA – la Santa Gresca in l'Escala and ÍTACA Sant Joan in l'Estartit. At the Església de l'Estartit, ÍTACA Plaça will debut, a free stage during vermouth hour with performances by Sodi and Ypnosi, among others. The Morad concert at the Palau de Fires de Girona already has 80% of its tickets sold out.
The Empordà Music Festival in La Bisbal d'Empordà celebrates its fifth edition with an expanded program. In addition to the two usual concert days, July 24 and 25, a third night is added on June 19 dedicated to emerging groups. This night will include artists like Aina Reig and Llini, and a band competition. The main weekend will feature performances by Nil Moliner, La Pegatina, Joan Dausà, and Els Pets, among others, and the venue's capacity will be expanded.
The region also stands out for its commitment to festivals in micro-towns, such as the Festival Brots, which in its first edition filled churches and squares with proposals that went beyond music, uniting culture and territory. The Itinera Festival, for its part, consolidates its presence in the Baix Empordà with repeated venues in La Tallada d'Empordà, Fontclara, Parlavà, and Gualta, and opens a call for local artists.
Other proposals include the concert series Vespres sota el campanar in Verges, the Festival Clàssic de Pals, and the musical diversity of the Festival de Torroella de Montgrí and the Fringe, which cover everything from classical music to jazz. In Palamós, the Festival amb So de Cobla explores the sound of the cobla by fusing it with other musical styles.
