The inauguration, held in Plaça Esteva i Cruañas, featured the renowned chef Quim Casellas, from the Casamar restaurant, and journalist Maria Xinxó. The day included theatrical performances by the Teatre Mutis group, live music with Aurora Ortiz, and a tasting of dishes prepared by participating restaurants, paired with Perelada cava.
During the event, the third edition of the Rock Fish Croquette Contest was held. First prize was awarded to Turandot, second to Parador d'Aiguablava, and third to Carbó. A portion of the funds raised will be allocated to Projecte Sèpia, an initiative dedicated to marine conservation and promoting more sustainable fishing along the Empordà coast.
This year's campaign involves 13 establishments, offering special menus with rock fish as the main ingredient, with prices ranging from 55 to 100 euros. Participants will receive the traditional Rock Fish pebble, painted by the Casal de la Gent Gran, and will be entered into a draw for a guided boat trip along the Begur coastline.
“"It is much more than a gastronomic proposal, as it reflects the municipality's connection to the sea and the ability of restaurateurs, entities, and the City Council to work together in promoting the territory."
Beyond the culinary offerings, the program includes various activities over the coming weeks, such as the Rock Fish Walk, documentary screenings, electric bicycle routes, underwater clean-up actions, gastronomic tastings, and family activities. A municipal spokesperson highlighted the involvement of the restaurant sector and emphasized the campaign's consolidation as a key tool for promoting Begur and generating economic activity.
