This proposal, driven by Sostre Cívic, aims to foster active aging, mutual support among residents, and residential stability. The forecast is that the first members will be able to move into the building before the end of the year.
The renovated building, located just five minutes from the center of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, features 31 living units that will accommodate a total of 40 people. These future residents have actively participated in the project's development since its inception, as explained by the president of the Walden XXI steering group.
Beyond private residences, the complex includes various common areas designed to promote community life, such as a dining room, a day space, several terraces, and areas dedicated to workshops. The project's philosophy is to maintain individual independence without sacrificing the strong sense of community that has guided the creation of Walden XXI.
“"This initiative is a benchmark project in Catalonia. We celebrate that it has been developed in Sant Feliu, which is why the city council has collaborated from the outset to make it viable."
The Walden XXI project aligns with other municipal initiatives in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, such as the transformation of the old Trashler factory into affordable rental housing. This need to promote new housing projects is crucial for the city, which has few areas for new urban developments and requires the rehabilitation of existing buildings.
