The Mossos d'Esquadra dismantled a three-member criminal group this week that stole 46,200 euros in jewelry and cash during five violent home invasions targeting elderly residents in the Baix Empordà region.

The criminal group managed to steal 13,200 euros in cash and jewelry valued at 33,000 euros in at least five robberies. The first assault was recorded on December 30 in Palafrugell, and the last took place on Monday night in Mont-ras.
The thieves' modus operandi involved entering homes with their faces covered by balaclavas, assaulting elderly victims, and tying them up to immobilize them. Once the situation was controlled, they quickly stole jewelry, money, and valuables, fleeing in strategically parked vehicles.
The investigation was initiated by the Mossos of the Basic Criminal Investigation Area of La Bisbal d'Empordà following the Palafrugell assault, and was later taken over by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Girona Police Region. Inquiries led to the identification of the perpetrators, who resided in Calonge.
The final assault in Mont-ras accelerated the arrests. Investigators located the perpetrators' vehicle driving through Calonge. Upon detecting the police presence, the driver initiated a reckless flight that ended in a collision with another vehicle, slightly injuring the driver. The occupants fled on foot.
Finally, the Mossos were able to arrest the three members the following day in a wooded area of Llagostera, after they abandoned a car that the officers were tracking. The arrested individuals are accused of five violent home robberies, belonging to a criminal group, and illegal detention.
It is noted that the three arrested individuals accumulated a total of 26 previous offenses in Spain, and one of them was a repeat offender in Belgium, where he had 52 previous offenses for similar acts. The investigation remains open, and further arrests are not ruled out.
