The new mammograph, installed in May, provides superior resolution images, aiding in the study of breast tissue and contributing to the early detection and characterization of potential lesions. It also features design improvements aimed at increasing patient comfort during the examination.
A significant innovation is the capability to perform contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM). This technique combines conventional mammography with contrast administration, offering additional information on tissue vascularization, which is useful for studying suspicious lesions.
The equipment also enables stereotactic-guided biopsies for lesions that enhance with contrast and are not visible via ultrasound, thereby expanding the tools available for studying breast pathology.
The total investment for this new equipment amounted to 348,480 euros. Of this sum, 139,392 euros, representing 40% of the total cost, were subsidized by the Specific Program for Support to Technological Renewal (PERT) of the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut).
With this new acquisition, Palamós Hospital strengthens its technological resources in Diagnostic Imaging, providing professionals with advanced tools to improve care for patients with breast conditions.
