Farmers' Union denounces ineffective riverbank repairs in Gualta

Unió de Pagesos claims that recent ACA repairs failed to withstand standard rainfall, damaging local apple orchards.

The Unió de Pagesos union has reported a lack of efficiency in the repair work carried out by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) on the Gualta riverbank in Baix Empordà.

Despite two weeks of construction work, last weekend's rainfall washed away the riverbank and part of an apple orchard. The union points out that the infrastructure was not properly reinforced, even though the weather was not as severe as previous storms like Harry or Glòria.

"The fact that the weir is broken on one side modifies the river's course, which takes everything in its path."

Farmers are demanding the proper restoration of riverbanks and the cleaning of riverbeds. They have also requested a detailed damage report from the Agricultural Territorial Services in Girona to assess the impact on local crops.
