The fire declared in La Bisbal d'Empordà and spread to the Gavarres Massif has burned approximately 2,300 hectares and forced 9,700 residents into confinement. Firefighters are working intensely to control the blaze, which has affected buildings and led to road and natural space closures.

Firefighters continue to work intensely to control the forest fire affecting La Bisbal d'Empordà and the Gavarres Massif. According to the latest data, the fire has burned approximately 2,300 hectares, primarily forest land, and has necessitated the confinement of 9,700 residents across nine affected municipalities. The situation has required the mobilization of hundreds of ground crews and aerial resources, as well as the collaboration of the Military Emergencies Unit (UME).
The fire, which allegedly started from a spark from a radial saw used by a worker, has impacted several buildings, with 14 registered as partially affected and 11 with significant or total damage. The most affected areas include Calonge i Sant Antoni, Cruïlles, Monells i Sant Sadurní de l'Heura, La Bisbal d'Empordà, and Santa Cristina d'Aro. Municipal pavilions have been set up to accommodate evacuated residents.
Weather conditions, marked by intense heat and wind, have complicated firefighting efforts, particularly on the right flank of the fire, considered the most concerning due to its proximity to sensitive areas and potential for spread. Firefighters have had to contend with flare-ups and secondary ignitions, while anticipating the arrival of sea breezes (marinada) that could bring humidity but also worsen the situation.
Due to the fire, several key roads, including the GI-660, GIV-6612, and GIV-664, have been closed, impacting regional mobility. The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has closely monitored the fire's evolution, thanking the emergency teams' efforts and urging public caution. The entire Gavarres Natural Space has been closed for safety reasons.
Confinements remain in place, and residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel to the affected area to facilitate the work of emergency services. The Calonge Town Council is preparing meetings with property owners affected to advise them on insurance claims. The investigation into the fire's origin is ongoing.
