In-Edit Empordà, the documentary music film festival promoted by the Torroella de Montgrí Festival, is aiming for a more ambitious edition this summer. The showcase is growing from eight to twelve documentaries and enhancing its complementary activities to offer an immersive experience combining cinema, music, and reflection.
The program will kick off on July 1st and run until August 19th, with screenings at the Cinema Montgrí and other venues in the municipality. These screenings will be accompanied by concerts, sound performances, talks, and activities related to the artists and themes of the documentaries.
One of the notable new features is the creation of the International In-Edit Empordà Award, endowed with nearly three thousand euros. This award aims to recognize excellence in the field of documentary music and boost the festival's profile.
Dutch filmmaker Frank Scheffer, a prominent figure in European documentary music, will be the focus of this edition with a retrospective of five screenings spanning over thirty years of his career. Works about figures such as Gustav Mahler, John Cage, or Frank Zappa will be included.
Scheffer will visit Torroella de Montgrí on August 12th, coinciding with a solar eclipse, to present one of his most recent productions. The day will also feature a performance by Syrian clarinetist and composer Kinan Azmeh.
The festival's opening will feature a documentary dedicated to the American composer Meredith Monk. Before the screening, singer Maria Arnal will present a sound performance at the Museu Palau Solterra.
The selection of documentaries also includes prominent figures from contemporary music, jazz, and classical music. Artists involved in the parallel activities will include Cuban musician Paquito D’Rivera, pianist Itamar Golan, and violinist Robert Lakatos.
With this third edition, In-Edit Empordà consolidates its growth in the cultural offerings of the Baix Empordà region, reinforcing its mission to bring music closer to the public through the documentary medium.
