The Llevantí de Mar School in Calonge i Sant Antoni has consolidated the "L’Art de Somiar" project, an initiative that began five years ago with a marching band and now integrates music, theatre, and dance transversally for all students.
Five years ago, Llevantí de Mar School initiated the "L’Art de Somiar" project by creating a marching band, inspired by New Orleans street bands, following a proposal from the Ajuntament de Calonge i Sant Antoni. This initiative, which started like "a ripple effect," has become a cornerstone of the school's educational approach, expanding to include theatre and dance.
Currently, students from third to sixth grade participate in artistic activities during regular school hours and free of charge, thanks to municipal support. Older students create a musical combining acting, live music, and choreography, while third graders explore dance with the CobosMika company from Palamós. The project also collaborates with professors from the Escola de Música La Moderna for learning instruments such as trumpets, trombones, saxos, and percussion.
Teachers emphasize that "L’Art de Somiar" uses art as a transversal tool to teach various subjects, from language and social studies to critical thinking, sparking children's curiosity about artists' lives, contexts, and motivations. The aim is to highlight the value of learning processes, dedication, and collaborative work, culminating in the end-of-year musical.
The project is considered "probably the most inclusive" at the school, ensuring equal opportunities in accessing artistic disciplines. Furthermore, its connection with the municipality, through the marching band's participation in local events like Sant Jordi or the OncoMusic Festival, allows students to feel actively involved in local cultural life and understand that their learning can bring joy to the community.
“"Art sparks curiosity. Children wonder how artists lived, in what context they worked, and why they did things in a certain way."
“"When the children see the final result, they understand that all the effort was worth it. It's important for them to learn that things take time and dedication."
“"It is probably the most inclusive project we have. All children participate regardless of their situation."
“"We truly believe in it. The school goes far beyond the regular school hours, and we need support to continue offering quality education."
