To improve waste management and prevent public bins from overflowing, especially during weekends and peak tourist seasons, a new commercial waste collection service has been implemented in the main coastal areas of Palafrugell. This measure primarily targets restaurants and shops located on the seafront.
The service operates on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Businesses must leave their waste, correctly separated into organic, packaging, glass, and paper/cardboard, outside their premises or at an agreed point between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM. The municipal service then collects it between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
The council reminds establishments that they cannot use public bins for commercial waste, except for residual waste. This regulation aims to ensure bins are reserved for domestic use and to prevent overflows during busy periods.
With this reinforcement, the Palafrugell City Council is advancing part of its seasonal deployment to adapt to the activity in its coastal towns. The goal is to better organize collection, facilitate the service for businesses, and maintain cleaner public spaces along the entire waterfront.
In the coming weeks, the council plans to hold informational meetings with businesses to detail further changes to the commercial collection system for this summer.
