The Palamós City Council has announced a 900,000 euro investment for street paving and sidewalk improvements, following a significant budget increase approved in the April plenary session.

The decision, made during this month's April municipal plenary session, represents a 600,000 euro increase from the initial allocation of 200,000 euros. An additional 100,000 euros for sidewalk improvements, agreed upon through a citizen participation process and included in the municipal budget, will also be added to this figure.
With this budget expansion, the council plans to act on approximately 12,300 square meters of public space. Municipal technicians will be responsible for determining the specific streets where the works will be carried out in the coming weeks, following the priority order established by the citizens.
The paving plan will continue, as in previous years, to be based on the criteria defined in the citizen participation process from late 2016. These criteria prioritize streets with the most deteriorated pavement, followed by those with higher traffic volume, and finally, those with significant relevance for commercial, residential, or service uses.
Interventions on the roadway will include the repair of the existing pavement's structural package, with tasks such as milling, leveling, compaction, and asphalt paving, as well as repainting road signs. For sidewalks, both punctual repairs and comprehensive interventions will be carried out in some sections, often with the aim of widening them. These works will involve the demolition of old structures, the channeling of services, and the replacement with a new surface of paving stones.
The additional 100,000 euros will allow for actions in various parts of the municipality, including improvements in sections of President Macià, Aragó, and Nàpols streets, as well as the renovation of the sidewalk on Àngel Guimerà street and the cementing of the parallel ditch. The repair of two sidewalks and two pedestrian crossings in the Pla d'es Pla neighborhood to improve accessibility, and the improvement of a section of the sidewalk on Pere Joan street, between Emili Joan and Josep Joan streets, are also planned.
With these actions, the council aims to reinforce the maintenance of public spaces and address the mobility and accessibility needs identified in different sectors of the locality.
