The Palamós Town Council and the Catalan Water Agency have agreed on special monitoring measures for local bathing waters following a major failure at the regional treatment plant.

Heavy rainfall, totaling 220 liters near Palafrugell, caused the Aubí stream to overflow, completely flooding the facility. The plant serves Palamós, Calonge i Sant Antoni, and several nearby villages.
Repairs are expected to continue until summer 2026. In the meantime, only basic water treatments are being performed before the water is discharged deep into the sea to ensure public safety.

"I admit it is not the ideal solution, but the controls indicate good quality at various points."
