The Palamós Local Police have provided road safety training to 400 students regarding the legal use of electric scooters within the Baix Empordà municipality.

A police corporal is leading the sessions across local high schools to explain current legislation and the risks of improper vehicle use. The program aims to foster responsible attitudes among young people, emphasizing that these vehicles are restricted to bike lanes and roads, with a strict ban on sidewalk riding.
Key requirements highlighted include mandatory registration with the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) and the necessity of insurance. Officers also reminded students that the maximum speed is capped at 25 km/h and that using mobile phones or headphones while riding is strictly prohibited.
The Palamós Town Council will support this educational push with increased police patrols and random checks in pedestrian areas. Fines for non-compliance with traffic laws can reach 1,000 euros, as authorities aim to ensure a safe environment for both riders and pedestrians.
